Knitted Structure - Basis of Technical Textiles

Abstract

Knitted products are used today in every sphere of life and are used not only for clothing, but for many other purposes as well. The areas of application of knitted products have recently grown in number beyond all expectations, especially in the field of technical textiles. There is almost no technical textile product today that could not be manufactured by knitting, in most cases at lowest costs. Besides numerous other areas, knitting is used to make products for automobile industry, building and construction, medical and health care, etc. We have all been impressed by the idea of the possibility of building a bridge over Gibraltar employing composite knitted structures, and even more by the fact that an artificial knitted structure can replace damaged blood vessel and save somebody‘s life.
