Influence of Ultrasonic Pre-treatment on the Ageing of Polyamide Fibres

Abstract

The influence of the ultrasonic pre-treatment in distilled and sea water on the susceptibility to the ageing of polyamide fibres under the effect of the sunlight, atmospheric influence and artificial white daylight (Xenotest) was examined. It was found out that such pre-treatment has a positive effect on the mechanical properties, i.d. it decreases the loss of strength and flexibility during the ageing process of fibres in natural and artificial atmosphere. The thermo-stability of ultrasonic treated fibres is reduced by ageing something more than on the fibres which have not been treated in this way. The ability of fixing the dyestuff is reduced by the ageing of fibres, but no greater influence of ultrasonic pre-treatment has been ascertained.
