Abstract

Only some of the most widely used fibres in the field of technical textiles are described here, since the area of the application of technical fibres is extremely complex and comprehensive. The authors have tried to attribute equal importance to each group of fibres that have found its place in modern technical textiles, starting with the oldest ones, i. e. natural fibres, including standard and modified types of man-made fibres, to the latest fibres manufactured from new-generation polymers, implementing new technologies. A review is given of the characteristic properties of particular fibre groups, important in fulfilling the requirements imposed by particular areas of application. Comprehensive tables offer an insight into the properties of selected fibre types with high and specific properties, together with the possibilities of applying the fibres for a wide range of technical textile products, for textile and some other applications.
