Abstract

Textile production on Croatian soil dates back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds and traces of inheritance that can be seen on later textiles. The handicraft textile production in these regions is characterized by some general cultural characteristics of the southern Slavs, partly reflecting their ancestors, but also by peculiarities specific to individual geographical areas where life was organized in communities in accordance with natural-geographical characteristics and social conditions. These were farming communities in which people satisfied all their textile needs for centuries.
