Abstract

Textile and apparel industries are the most important export branches in Croatia, employing over 15 % of the total number of employed workes, and taking approximately 20 % of the Croatian industrial export to Western markets. The biggest share of the export is realised through services (lohn), which should be substituted with items of own complete production in the future. The conditions for competitiveness on the world market are as follows: - production of autochtonic Croatian products, designed using contemporary computer equipment, inspired by original Croatian ornaments and in concordance with world fashion trends, production rationalisation and production of high-quality textile and apparel items, which would fulfill stringent ecological conditions. The above conditions can be realised if new capital is invested into production plants, and also asuming a sufficent quantity of research (both development and applied) is done in the field of textile technology and related sciencies.
