Fibre Morphology and Structure - High Performance Fibres
Abstract
The paper gives an overview about the morphology of the best known high performance fibres. Fibres of various energy interrelationships between atoms from the group of one-dimensional covalent bonds along molecules, microfibril fibres from flexible and rigid molecules (UHMW-PE, aramides), two-dimensional covalent bonds in the plane, multi-layered fibres (carbon) and three-dimensional covalent bonds between atoms (ceramic and glass fibres) are described. An ideal structure and structural requirements for high performance fibres are described. Morphologic qualities of three groups of fibres of different energy interrelationships are described.Downloads
