Abstract

The development of novel fibres for technical applications is based on novel technologies, first of all on biotechnology, nanotechnology and microelectronics. The paper describes major development achievements over several last years in fibres for technical textiles: nanofibres, artificial spider silk, fibres with a negative Poisson number, intelligent fibres and fibres made from bird‘s feathers. An overview of the state and novelties in fibre development with different properties is given: electro conductive fibres, fibres with enhanced biological activities and active carbon fibres.
