Abstract

The orientation of the supermolecular structure of the polyester fibres was investigated by measuring the optical properties. The investigations were carried out with the polarisation microscope by using two methods: compensation method for determining birefrigance and Jamin-Lebedeff‘s interference method for determining refractive index in the direction of the main and side fibre axis. The factors of orientation and the average angles of inclination of the supermolecular structure as quantitative indications were calculated from the refractive index. The investigations showed that by the use of these two methods a glimpse into the whole orientation can be given as well as the information about the course of restructuring with regard to the main and side axis. The statistical analysis of measuring results proved the disagreement of the results obtained by the use of the two methods.
