Computer Control of the Jacquard Card Copying Machine

Abstract

The paper describes the automation procedure of the Jacquard card copying machine and the appropriate expansion respectively, which is necessary for the control of the machine with the aid of a computer. The described procedure enables a rapid and absolutely accurate punching of large Jacquard weave designs, without any influence of human error and with a high increase in productivity. A description of basic mechanical, electrical and electronic elements inevitable for the machine expansion and automation as well as computer program for the control is given. The improvements accomplished are compared with classic hand punching of Jacquard cards as well as with the properties of the computer-controlled hand-held puncher.
