Abstract

The trends in manufacture and consumption of nonwoven textiles until 1998 are shown. The analysis of the most recent technical solutions, presented at ITMA‘99 in Paris, indicates the advantages, disadvantages and further prospective of various processes for manufacturing nonwoven textiles. The ProDyn® system of the NSC Group Schlumberger, shown for the first time on ITMA ‘99, will most probably state new criteria in the field of quality and productivity for nonwovens in the future. The process of bonding nonwovens by a water jet, due to the possibility of simultaneous bonding and fibrillation of certain types of fibres, will make possible the manufacture of nonwoven textiles of some special properties and of a specific structure. New developments, shown at ITMA ‘99 in Paris will certainly have a considerable impact on the quality, productivity and rationalisations on manufacturing lines for nonwovens at the threshold of the new millennium.
