Abstract

The life and work of Croatian textile artist Dr. Emil Erlač are described. He spent his whole life in Varaždin. After graduating from high school, he is immediately employed. Among other things, he was the manager of quality control of the entire Varteks plant and the head of the Varaždin Study Unit of the Faculty of Textile Technology of the University of Zagreb. He significantly improved its work, opening the then most modern IT unit. While working as a student, he completed textile studies, master's degree and doctorate at the Faculty of Textile Technology of the University of Zagreb. He was a distinguished teacher, scientist and social worker. He held the high positions of secretary and president in professional organizations. He was our most prominent scientist who studied wool, its properties and breeding. He published notable scientific and professional works, which are listed in the attached bibliography. As a teacher in the subjects "Textile raw materials" and "Technology of dyeing and finishing of textiles", he supervised over 60 diploma theses.
