Abstract

Special effects obtained on jeans are the result of finishing processes following garment production. The combination of basic processes is adjustable by color, look, hand as well as by functionality to the requirements of fashion trends. Contemporary trends can be accomplished by wet and dry treatments during jeans processing. Different ingredients as surfactants, enzymes, bleaches, fluorescent whitening agents, synthetic resins, softeners as well as additives are added into wet treatment processes. Dry treatments are based on optical methods as well as on the application of abrasive tools. The paper provides an overview of the most important finishing treatments of jeans with special emphasis on novelties and trends. Special effects are the result of synergism between creative ideas and technological implementation. Damages and faults occurring during jeans processing as well as environmental problems are discussed in a special chapter of this review.
