Abstract

The article gives an overview about the last investigations in the area of composite materials being based on the application of ceramic particles in textile goods to get materials with the following qualities: Cut and wear resistance, high-thermal and chemical resistance, antimicrobial qualities and special surface characteristics. Disperse systems of ceramic particles in single and bicomponent fibres are described. New methods of producing ceramic coats on fibres, yarns and surface materials are presented. Special attention is paid to coatings from organically modified ceramics (ormocers) or from hybrid inorganic-organic polymers which can be obtained by the sol-gel procedure. New coating methods from gas phase by the physical (PVD) and chemical (CVD) mechanism and by coating ceramic particles on the textile surface material by means of the plasma process are summarised. Examples of development achievements of these new, interesting materials and their features are mentioned.
