Abstract

The most important characteristics of the process of knitted fabric softening are discribed. The application of a measuring system in the investigations of sewing needle penetration force is discussed. Reduction of sewing needle penetration force in process of knitted fabric sewing is investigated on a plain jersey cotton knitted fabric, designated DLP, in relation to the treatment the fabric has received, type and amount of the softener used, sewing needle gauge of Nm 70, 80 and 90, sewing thread fineness and the method of sewing or stitching employed.
