Abstract

A review of knowledge and experience in the field of sodium hypochlorite usage as a potential pollutant in textile industry waste waters, in the processes of pretreating cotton, has been presented. Mechanisms of chlorinated organic compounds development (AOX values) have been described, together with the ways of their identification, while their toxicity in textile industry waste waters has been given special attention. Possibilities of lowering AOX values have also been stated.
