Abstract

Cotton, as one of the most preferred and most often used textile raw material is discussed from the environmental point of view. Particular emphasis is given to the environmental loads, connected with modern monocultural cultivation of this plant. An updated survey is given of the ecological problem during processing and finishing. The human and ecological aspect is discussed too. Various measures, undertaken nowadays in the whole processing chain - from the cultivation up to the final product - are pointed out, with the aim to achievea most convenient ecological cotton balance.
