The State of the Art and Predictable Future of Information Technology and its Application in Integrated Production Systems

Abstract

This short survey presents the state of the art of computer and communication technologies, lately known under the common name information technology (IT). Contemporary technological possibilites and the importance of standardization on all implementation levels are pointed out. The open systems concept, which is expected to enable a gradual and natural growth of computer integrated production systems, is emphasized.
