Determination of the Strength of the Sewed Seams on Clothing

Abstract

Determination of the strength of the sewed seams on the clothing as the function of the mechanics of transformations of the elongation load of the thread system in the fabric and of the effect on the sewing thread in the seam, as well as the function of the properties of the used sewing thread, rsp. of the decrease of the strength of the sewing thread after the load during the sewing process is discussed. For this purpose the measurements of the breaking strength of the sewed seam and the investigations of the influence of the decrease of the strength of the sewing thread after the load in the sewing process on the strength of the sewed seams were carried out. The results obtained showed, that the strength of the sewed seams should be considered as the function of the properties of the used sewing thread, of the decrease of the strength of the sewing thread as the consequence of the load of the sewing thread in the sewing process, of the index of the seam strength and of the stitch length.
