Abstract

Characteristics of technical and technological development in the fields of garment technology and engineering, as shown at the international textile machinery and equipment exhibition ITMA‘99 in Paris, are presented. Developments in the field of construction preparation are concentrated in the improved versions of software solutions for garment design, modelling, grading and cutting pattern manufacturing, as well as in the construction of virtual collections of garment models and electronic catalogues. In the field of cutting, most prominent developments consist of electrical motor designs with vibration insulators and machines for steam setting, which enable equal distribution of pressure on the whole of the conveyor belt surface. In sewing, the most outstanding development took place in machine embroidery, primarily in developing computer software for machine embroidery of larger patterns, wider possibilities of creative designing and development of universal software. New rotation heads in embroidery machines, with radial needles and computer-aided embroidery have also been presented. Developments in machine embroidery accessories indicate the possibility of applying embroidery on various base materials. In garment finishing, tunnel finisher with bottom transport for ironing knit goods has been presented. Visitors could also see garment pressing machines with a wide choice of programmes and attachments for after-pressing.
