Abstract

The role of the textile and clothing industry of Croatia is extraordinary remarkable, having the share of industrial production 12 %, of the realized income 11 %, of export revenues 10 % and of employees 16 %. War devastations (registrated and evaluated until today) in these branches of industry have urged by the end of 1991 damages in the value of 265 millians DM, althoug the real damages are greater and are evaluated up to 400 millians DM. The war has also caused a significant decrease of production in 1991 in comparison with 1990, particular in the production of yarns and fabrics (38 %) and of final articles (21 %). After the end of the war, the elimination of war damages must become the integral part of the concept and development strategy of the textile and clothing industry. The renovation should not include all destred capacities at any rate, but only those which can give new development impulses. Re-structuration of the production will be necessary.
