Abstract

The increase in aviation activities during the First World War prompted the development of new models of military jackets. In addition to leather jackets designed to protect against cold, models of summer jacket models were slowly developed. Nowadays, such jackets are part of military uniforms or used as part of the ceremonial uniform. This paper presents the development of a new summer ceremonial officer‘s jacket, designed upon the example of Eisenhower or Ike jacket. In 1943 General Dwight D. Eisenhower emphasized the need to create new winter uniforms for the US Army modeled on uniforms of British military forces. That is why he proposed changes to the US Army Supreme Headquarters. The Eisenhower Jacket had a strong influence on women‘s fashion in the 1950s, and today many civilians are wearing parts of business uniforms, e.g. policemen, postmen, bus drivers, etc.
