Abstract

Since geotextiles are very much in use for soil stabilization as well as for road constructions of unbonded layers, this paper covers one of the most important geotextile functions, i.e. filtration process. Filtration process is explained using basic definitions and terms, advantages and disadvantages, filtration devices and two basic groups of filtration processes explained in the paper. In 2001 The Civil Engineering Institute of Croatia composed General Technical Conditions for road constructions which prescribe the conditions required from geotextile quality and at the same time determine what the manufacturer needs. The intention of this paper is to show the need for collaboration between two branches - building and textile industry - with the aim of constructing higher quality and long lasting structures.
