Abstract

Smart textile technology is still very young, so a lot of research work is still needed. Basic problems: resistance to washing, establishing contact or robustness are only partially solved. However, due to the increased interest in this new technology, research will intensify and form the basis for a wide range of uses. In addition to individual technological issues, new procedures and production flows should be developed. Smart textiles will first be found mainly in numerous special applications, for example in the medical field (monitoring of body functions), special clothing for rescue teams (surveillance and position monitoring) or as billboard carriers (textiles that emit light).
