Spinning of Polypropylene/Organoclay Composites, Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Fibres
Keywords:

The paper deals with the spinning of polypropylene (PP)/organoclay composite fibres, their thermal and mechanical properties. The aim of the experimental work was the improvement of non-uniformity of the PP fibres as well as enhancement their tensile strength and Young‘s modulus. The organoclays were incorporated into the matrix of PP fibres in the form of PP/organoclay concentrated dispersion before spinning. The rheological properties of PP and PP/organoclay concentrated dispersion and non-uniformity of PP composite fibres were investigated to estimate the melt mixing of the components and the processing of the composites at spinning and drawing. The PP/organoclay composite fibres, containing 0.02-0.1 wt % of organoclay, formed at a maximum draw ratio showed a higher tensile strength (tenacity) and Young‘s modulus in comparison with the unmodified fibres. The effect of the compatibiliser-dispersant on the drawing process, average orientation of the PP composite fibres and their mechanical properties are presented in the paper, as well.Downloads
