Rings and Travelers - Main Elements of the Ring Spinning Machine

Authors

Abstract

The ring traveler causes the highest number of yarn breaks on the ring spinning machine, providing a suitable traveler has been selected. yarn breakage occurs mostly due to yarn unevenness and improper run of the traveler caused by the wear and tear of the traveler or the ring. It is therefore necessary to know ring traveler shape and properties in order to select a suitable traveler for the appropriate raw material, to ensure optimum spinning conditions and to conduct the ring spinning process properly. The paper provides an overview of traveler designation, how they are divided depending on shape, material and final treatment. A survey of the basic ring shapes together with the description of the properties and fields of application is also provided. Advantages of Orbit and SU rings made by Bräcker and necessary prerequisites in using such rings are stated. Depending on material type, metal and PA travelers (reinforced with glass or aramid fibres and with inserted metal component) are dealt together with their final treatments.
