Abstract

Airbag fabrics have specific properties requiring special raw materials and manufacturing process. To meet legislation standards for the production of airbags, mostly synthetic fibres and yarns of high strength and compactness are used respectively, as well as special processes up to finished fabric. Besides, it is essential to have strength and impermeability in joined places, and if these places are stitched, it is necessary to find an optimum sewing thread and stitch length. Furthermore, physical characteristics, fabric construction elements such as weave, density mass and thickness were analyzed. According to the obtained results it may be stated that the airbag fabrics tested have relatively similar properties such as air permeability, breaking force and elongation at break, and they shall meet specified legislation standards.
