Abstract

The application of ß-cyclodextrin for textiles has been investigated. The relatively hydrophobic inside imparts ß-cyclodextrin the ability of forming complexes with many hydrophobic molecules. Numerous other molecules such as different easily volatile molecules and pharmacological substances can be introduced into its inside. To increase the penetration of ß-cyclodextrin into the textile material, the impregnation was carried out by means of ultrasonics. A cotton fabric was treated by ß-cyclodextrin in an VCX 750 ultrasonic instrument for 30 minutes. Since cyclodextrines are not reactive, they cannot be bonded on the textile material. In this investigation ß-cyclodextrin and p-toulensulfonil-chloride for the preparation of toulensulfonil derivative of ß-cyclodextrin were used. The reaction of cyclodextrin modification was monitored by UV-VIS and Raman-spectroscopy as well as by zone capillary electrophoresis. The presence of ß-cyclodextrin molecules on the textile substrate was determined by dyeing in reactions with phenolphthalein. By this method the presence of ß-cyclodextrin and the layer after treatment in the padder and by ultrasonics respectively was proved.
