Manufacture and Properties of Elastic Woven Interlinens

Abstract

Interlinens are textile products, or better to say intermediate products, that are not seen, but are necessary in the manufacture of outerwear. They give adequate strength and dimensional stability to the articles of clothing, both in wearing and in care, i.e. dry-cleaning, ironing etc. Their properties should be maximally matched to the properties of the fabrics used for the outerwear in question. Since there has been a noted trend of using woven fabrics with elastane fibres (Lycra), of increased weft-wise elasticity or elasticity in both the directions of warp and weft, interlinens should exhibit similar elastic properties. Weaving of interlinens with Lycra yarns in the weft is described on air-jet weaving machines, together with the results of testing the properties of such fabrics. Physical-mechanical properties of the fabric are tested, as dependent upon the percentage of Lycra in the weft. The results obtained indicate that the whole of the construction of the fabric, as well as finishing procedures applied, should be pre-programmed, having in mind the changes caused by adding Lycra. This is the only way to get exact results aimed at.
