The Influence of Ultrasound on Mechanical Properties of Fibers and Yarns
Abstract
The influence of ultrasound treatment on mechanical properties of yarns manufactured from cotton, wool and polyester fibers, as well as on those of their blends, is investigated. Ultrasound waves of the frequency of 30 kHz are used, and the treatments are done at various temperatures and are of various duration. The changes in dry (conditioned) and wet tensile strength are investigated, together with the changes in bending strength (torsional resistance) and sorption properties. Ultrasound treatment influences the above properties of fibers and yarns, and the impact varies in relation to the raw material content und type of yarn tested. Ultrasound treatment can have beneficial and detrimental effects, so optimal treatment conditions should be thoroughly investigated.Downloads
