Abstract

Main characteristics of cotton knitted fabric finishing and softening are described. The application of a new device for testing loop damages is discussed, together with the measuring system for testing the sewing needle penetration force. The reduction of the incidence of loop damage, in relation to the sewing needle penetration force is investigated on sa single jersey cotton knitted fabric, designated DLP and a double-face single rib cotton knitted fabric, designated DDRP, the variables being finishing the fabric has undergone, type and amount of softener used, sewing needle gauge Nm 80 and adequate thread fineness, and the number of cutting layers, while the investigation is performed is performed employing the method of topstitching.
