Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of fabric construction on its sound absorption properties. It is found out how the following affects sound absorption: density of cloth (in weft direction), weave (satin, plain, twill), surface mass of cloth and number of cloth layers in a layer of specific thickness in order to find out a number of cloth layers providing an optimal reduction of noise. All the measurements were performed in a frequency noise range from 160 Hz to 5000 Hz. The results obtained show that all the previously mentioned construction cloth elements exert a particular influence on sound absorption.
