Abstract

A model for constructing and patterning dobby woven fabrics using computers has been presented. It was developed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Maribor, Laboratory for textile constructions, on the basis of some practical experiences and the experience in the work with CAD systems. TWEED hardware includes a 32-bit Microvax II microcomputer, a graphic workstation, Canon ink-jet printer, Kyocera laser-jet printer and IBM AT personal computer. The software package used includes data bases for colours, for yarns/threads and complete repeat. Fabric pattern is simulated on the monitor screen through an interactive combination of constructive parameters. The computer fabric constructing model developed has a broad basis, and can be adapted to any type of dobby woven fabrics, and for any purpose whatsoever.
