Natural dyes - an alternative to synthetic dyes?

Abstract

For ecological and other reasons, supporters of environmental protection increasingly highlight natural dyes as an alternative to synthetic ones. The article discusses the origin and availability of natural dyes, dyeing procedures, color fastnesses, as well as ecology and toxicology compared to today's synthetic dyes. It is shown that for important technical and ecological reasons, natural dyes cannot be an alternative to synthetic ones.
