Affinity of Woolf Fabric to Heavy Metal Ions

Abstract

Metal ions exchange capacity (copper and lead) on wool fabrics was determined. The ions exchange of iron and copper ions in a column filled with wool fibers, as well as the ions exchange in wool by means of the static method or »batch« method, was investigated. The content of copper and iron on wool fabric, that was treated in foulard with different ions concentrations, was quantitatively determined. The results obtained show great affinity of wool fibers to heavy metal ions. It was established, that in case of oversoiling of wool with heavy metal salts, these can be partly or completely removed by treatement in the bathes with low pH values.
