Abstract

The article demonstrates investigations of parameters of finishing seam stitchings in upholstered furniture upholstery. Length of stitches and of “gaps” visually observed between stitches as well as unstability of the mentioned parameters subject to the stitch length fixed in a sewing machine were evaluated. It was determined that the length of stitches and of “gaps” varies in direct proportion, whereas unstability thereof varies in inverse proportion to the stitch length fixed in a sewing machine. It was obtained that the length with regard to a stitch in a stitching and to a “gap” between stitches may change by up to 0.6 mm and 0.2 mm respectively. It was demonstrated that under increase in the stitch length fixed in a sewing machine, unstability of the length with regard to a stitch and “gap” may decrease some 2 times. The presented data shows that in order to increase seam quality, it is better to make visually observed finishing stitching in longer stitches.
