Historical Development of Weaving

Abstract

An overview of the historical development of weaving worldwide based on historical documents in form of records and archeological findings is given. The beginnings of weaving, first looms and the oldest preserved fabric samples are described. According to the records it can be ascertained that very complicated fabric samples were made long before the introduction of the first jacquard machines. The first records about the fabric production in Croatia are dealt with. The beginnings of manufactory production in Zagreb as well as the establishment of first textile mills are investigated.
