Abstract

A review of standardisation in the field of protective garment is given according to international standards, as well as a review of the work of ISO Technical Committees that prepare the standards in the field. Requirements for protective clothing are given, the way of marking sizes, as well as the way of marking the clothing according to its purpose and type of protection. The international system of marking protective clothing offers the wearer a comprehensive information on the quality, area of application, together with the procedures of maintenance and care. An example of firemen protective clothing is developed according to the standard ISO 11613, which should be applied to assess the risk of using protective equipment in identifying risks, assessing hazards and selection of measures to eliminate or reduce the possibility of bodily harm to the wearer. The standard postulates testing methods, as well as minimum requirements for protective clothing to be used in extinguishing fires or in similar activities, where there is a danger of being exposed to heat and flame, all this having in mind a general approach to clothing design and construction.
