Abstract

In this work it is reported about the building of the flood gate in Oosterschelde in Netherlands and the considerable role of geotextiles in this building site of the century is discussed exhaustively. The construction and application of geotextiles, of composite materials for the fortification of the sea for the protection against erosion and multilayer filtering mattresses making the foundation of the flood gate are described. Furthermore, the general importance of industrial textiles, which are becoming an interesting market, is considered. Special note is taken of the possibilities of application and of the demands on the production of technical textiles.
