Analysis of breathability and waterproofness of rain protection workwear

Today it is usual to use waterproof clothing to protect against bad weather with so-called breathability property. Clothing waterproofness is the most important feature and is regularly clearly numerically expressed. Breathability is a property that allows sweat transport in the form of steam and significantly helps cool the wearer‘s body, but it is more difficult to compare the data on breathability with the user‘s actual needs. The European standard EN 343 provides clear criteria for waterproofness and breathability, but the parameters required are often insufficient to evaluate properties under actual conditions of use. Buyers of such protective workwear and/or professional protective clothing should therefore in some cases specify higher requirements. For the protection against bad weather everyday clothing is purchased, but it is not certified in accordance with European standards. Therefore, it is difficult to determine whether numerical breathability indicators on the garment label correspond to the user‘s requirements. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, it is recommended to perform wear trial under real wear conditions before deciding to purchase such clothing.Downloads
