Abstract

The goal of this paper was to give a contribution to research in the area of movie costume design. Based on the literature and the scarcity of information on the culture of clothing in the area of Judea during the Roman empire, the costumes and fashion of the Roman and Jewish population were analyzed in the 1st century and a conclusion was reached on the historical accuracy and consistency of the interpretation of the costume designers of two films ‘Ben-Hur: a Tale of the Christ4, a Hollywood film spectacle from 1959 and a modern 2016 version.
