Abstract

High machine performances alone are an insufficient guarantee of successful weaving in the future, measured in terms of cloth quality and weaving costs. By means of economic interdependences and relationships it is shown that every performance boost increases the importance of idle time. Accordingly, the efficiency of high-performance weaving systems is primarily a question of the possibilities for limiting such idle time. In this connection, reference is made to the reduction of idle time by optimal adaptation of yarn properties and yarn stressing during weft insertion, because the stress conditions are governed mainly by speed and hence performance. Today already, machine perfomances are attainable which may exceed the contractual stress limits of staple fibre yarns. Concequently, the interrelations, limits and differences in the load capacities are discussed especially with regard to the dynamometric properties of various staple fibre yarns.
