Abstract

The principal purpose of this work is to study cloth's dimensional stability particularly, after the finishing treatments. The garment shrinkage is the result of several parameters such as the type of industrial laundering, special treatments applied during the manufacturing process of garment washing, succession of special treatments and the type of ironing. The results show that the yarn fineness composing fabric, the ironing and some kinds of special treatments as well as their succession have a significant effect on the shrinkage of the garments. However, the resin treatment provokes a resistance against shrinkage so it gives the fibers a good dimensional stability. The succession of treatment and ironing treatment can increase a lot the shrinkage. Moreover, the behaviour of shrinkage differs from one zone (waist zone, hip zone and leg zone) to another of the same garment that is treated with the same treatment. This variation is affected by the type and number of seaming sewn in the garment. Finally, the majority of the treatments have a big influence on the final shrinkage of the gannent in the warp and weft direction; and especially, the chemical treatments that make it in full bath.
