Effect of fabric structure and finishing on dynamic absorption in terry fabrics with bleached/grey pile

Dynamic water absorption of terry fabrics with bleached/grey linen pile is investigated experimentally, using different fabric constructions. The absorption process of the fabrics depends on pile height, type and duration of the treatment performed. It takes 250-490 s from the starting moment till absolute absorption, when the spot is immobilised in grey fabrics and it is the longest wetting process, compared to all the other investigated fabrics. Even such a short and passive procedure as macerating influences the absorption ability of terry woven fabrics. Water absorption in all the washed fabrics continues till 130 s, regardless whether a detergent is used or not. whether a softener is applied or not, as well as regardless of the duration of the washing procedure. It is established that the fabrics with lower loop pile in many inspected time intervals, for variously treated fabrics, demonstrate higher values of changes of spot area compared with the fabrics having higher loop pile.Downloads
