Abstract

Due to the slower growth of the economy and the higher prices of cotton compared to polyester, the consumption of cotton decreased during 2008/2009. expects consumption to decrease by 7 % to 6 million tons. Cotton consumption has been increasing since 1998/1999. until 2006/2007 continuously increased, in total by 8 million tons, but during 2007/2008. it stagnated at 6.6 million, and for 2008/2009 a reduction in consumption is expected.
