Seam Efficiency and Slippage in Linen Fabrics
Abstract
The quality of sewn garment is affected by various factors. Two of these factors are seam efficiency and seam slippage. This paper reports on experimental investigation into the seam efficiency and slippage of linen fabrics. For this purpose, twenty-four sewing threads with different compositions and six linen fabrics having different dimensional and tensile properties are used. Seam efficiency values of light weight linen fabrics increase with the decrease in linear density of the sewing threads. Contrary to this, the seam efficiency values of medium and heavy weight linen fabrics increase with the increase in linear density for all compositions of the sewing threads used. Minimization of the seam slippage is the major necessity for obtaining the seam quality desired. It was found that, the cotton /polyester sewing threads give the highest seam slippage values, while mercerized cotton sewing threads give the lowest seam slippage values for all investigated linen fabrics.Downloads
