Abstract

Aesthetic appearance of a garment is assessed by the degree of appearance quality of the piece of garment in question, its drape and fitting, i.e. visual form of the garment. It is directly related to the type and properties of the fabrics used in their manufacture, its cut and manufacturing quality. Type and quality of the fabric are of primary importance. It is possible, due to fabric mechanical behaviour, with no direct physical change in the fabric, to transform the 2D form of a fabric into a 3D shaped article - garment piece. To clarify the impact of fabric mechanical behaviour on the form changes, as well as on the quality of garment appearance associated with it, the impact of particular parameters of fabric mechanical properties on garment appearance quality was investigated. The results obtained indicate that garment appearance quality is strongly affected by three components: formability, elastic potential and draping.
